Recent Event:

Interfaith fest brings together different voices: Voices from markedly different faiths filled the halls recently at Temple Beth El in Aliso Viejo. Nearly 1,000 people gathered at the Jewish synagogue for the 6th annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Musical Festival. The event, presented by the Interfaith Councils of Central Orange County, featured 15 choir groups as well as speakers from a number of different religions, including Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Muslim and Zoroastrian. Tom Thorkelson, OC interfaith director for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was chairman of the event. >More

Recent Commentary:

In Theory: does a religious slogan have a place in a city hall? In a world where corruption is manifest in high places, where unethical practices destroy our confidence in business, and where families are struggling to maintain their efficacy, we would prefer to select our battlegrounds. Fighting for slogans is not our highest priority. Living standards of excellence and virtue will mean more to our children and to our country than any motto. (Tom Thorkelson, O.C. Director of LDS Interfaith Relations, in Newport Beach Daily Pilot) >Read commentary

"The inquiry is often made of me, 'Wherein do you differ from others in your religious views?' In reality and essence we do not differ so far in our religious views, but that we should all drink in the principle of love. One of the grand fundamental principles of 'Mormonism' is to receive truth, let it come from whence it may."
-- Joseph Smith, first president and prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
